We recently spotted a fantastic blog called Cargo Cult Craft. It's the work of super talented London-based vintage sewing enthusiast Susannah, who has spent the past year living on a strict wartime clothing ration! She allotted herself just 66 clothing coupons, the amount provided to each man, woman or child in 1941.
As fans of the 'make do and mend' ethic, we're really looking forward to hearing her 2011 insights when her 'Fashion on the Ration' challenge officially ends this Sunday. Stop by her blog to read up on her fascinating journey and view the garments she refashioned or created from scratch.
Just a couple of highlights from Susannah's year...
An 'austerity-compliant' Jitterbug Dress from a 1940s Bestway Pattern (FYI: There's currenly a Swing Dress Sew Along you can join over at Elegant Musings blog).
Susannah reworked a man's shirt to create her own classic style.
Are you looking to demystify patterns or get inspired to overhaul your own wardrobe this year? As always, The Make Lounge is here to help with a variety of sewing and dressmaking workshops, including classes for absolute beginners. View our workshop calendar here.
